Obesity In America
It is a sad reality that America is becoming a country of obese people, we
are not taking much care about our nutritional values. Centre for Disease
Control and Prevention reveals that obesity has increased to around 60%
among the adults in America within the last twenty years. In children also
obesity has been tripled with the last thirty years. Around 33% of the
Americans are obese. Deaths due to obesity also goes on increasing graphically year by year.
Trivia Note: From studies and surveys conducted, the people in the state
of Hawaii have more in the numbers of obesity, heart problems and diabetes
than other US States. Studies shown by Brigham Young University
Exercise and Sport Science Department say that more than 20% of the
children in Hawaii are overweight.
The way of living and the diet of Americans play a major part in the
aspects of our health too. Leading the easy lifestyle, depending on
fast food items too much and the foods being cooked incorrectly, all play
negative roles in increasing the total weight of the body. People used to
consume much more fresh vegetables and fruits obtained directly from the
land. Nowadays there are increased refined foods and other ready made
packaged and processed food items coupled with the use of preservatives
and other technologies which are able to make the food last longer.
Even the soil we grow our food from is suffering from over farming, the
nutrients in the soil are far less than they were even 50 years ago, the
human body is recognizing the lack of goodness in the foods consumed and
is constantly sending signals to the brain to keep the food coming, thus
if the diet is high in fats and sugars etc the body is being saturated
with the wrong things, no wonder we are quickly becoming an obese nation.
There are also the items and methods used to increases the taste of
the food along with its longevity. The production in large quantities of
processing food to make them sell better in the marketplace all reduce the
quality of the food we eat. All of them become highly intense with
hydrogenated oils, sugar contents etc that all help only to increase
the total weight of the body.
We all like to have the food from those restaurants, which are easy to
get, low in cost, and highly delicious too. But we ignore the fact
that they all contain hardly any essential nutrients, only refined
carbohydrates, sugar, sodium and other highly saturated fats. We are also
not aware that taking even one meal from fast food restaurants may be
enough to provide us with enough calories and fat, required for one whole
day. The advertising of these food items, which also target children,
are not very good for their health and these items can make them obese
adults in the coming years. The contents of these packaged food items
might be detrimental to the total health and immunity of the body.
Usually in this highly competitive world, nobody has the time to spend for
regular exercise too, this is another reason for obesity, coupled with the
fact that the more overweight we become the less inclined to exercise we
become. Following a complete and healthy diet, and including exercise in
our daily routine will help to remove the excess weight and we Americans
especially have to be more cautious about these aspects.
